Partners is a non-profit organization that promotes positive change in youth through year long, one-to-one relationships with adult volunteers.
Junior partners are males and females, eight through eighteen, who have been referred by community agencies. These referring agencies have identified these youth as in need of the support and guidance that a caring adult can provide. The youth who are referred to Partners are variously described as "in conflict", "at-risk", "high risk", or "troubled youth". They may be in conflict with the law, at home, or in school. They may be victims of abuse, neglect, or incest. They may be at-risk for continuing or future problems in any number of areas: delinquency, drugs, alcohol, school dropout, pregnancy, suicide, loss, health, abuse, etc. Parents support their children's participation in the program.
Senior partners are men and women who volunteer to be friends, advocates, and role models for referred youth. They are screened and trained to support, accept, and guide their Junior Partners. Senior Partners make a commitment of time and energy that often evolves into a deeper emotional investment.
Professional staff match Junior Partners and Senior Partners to form Partnerships. The Partners program supports these relationships through volunteer training, counseling, recreational opportunities, life skills education, and other support services. The Partners program is supported by local communities through discounts to Partnerships program funding and board involvement. A model for success, Partners is a community expression of how individuals can be involved in making positive impact on the future- one person at a time.
Partners is a simple concept that works- a dynamic friendship giving youngsters an opportunity to take positive action to change their lives.
Partners serves youth who are children of substance abusers (85%), victims of abuse or neglect (82%), juvenile delinquents (29%), living in poverty (65%), members of a racial minority (35%), struggling in school or dropouts ( %), members of single parent families (53%).
Partners supports matched and waiting youth with monthly recreational activities, bi-monthly educational life skills, workshops, Senior Partner Only support groups, regular and on request counseling, and a monthly newsletter.
Partners collaborates with Dare to be You- a program of the Colorado State University Cooperation Extension and they provide both DARE* Pairs, (an alternative mentoring program) and Family Skill Building classes for first time juvenile offenders.
